Clupeiformes ist die Ordnung des Fisches des Strahls-finned, der die Hering-Familie, Clupeidae, und die Sardelle-Familie, Engraulidae einschließt. Die Gruppe schließt viele der wichtigsten Nahrungsmittelfische ein.

Clupeiformes sind physostomes, was bedeutet, dass die Gasblase einen pneumatischen Kanal hat, der ihn mit den Eingeweiden verbindet. Sie haben normalerweise an einer seitlichen Linie Mangel, aber haben noch die Augen, Flossen und Skalen, die für die Fischfamilie üblich sind, obwohl nicht alle Fische diese Attribute haben.
